Competing with some of the best teams in the region Jayma Jagdeeshwaran, Abhishek
Muthange and Asha Parwani of Sinhgad College of Engineering bagged the second runner up
position in the prestigious Sweden-India Nobel Memorial Quiz 2018 held at Mumbai on 28
September 2018. Certificates and gift hampers were awarded to the Sinhgad team. The first
position was bagged by IIT Bombay. Bjorn Holmgren, Consul, Consulate General of Sweden
handed out the prizes at the Inter-Collegiate quiz competition which saw avid quizzers from
across some of the most reputed colleges of the region. The winning team will now represent
the city at the National Finals which will be held at New Delhi on 1st November 2018.
This was the Mumbai edition of the quiz conducted at Welingkar Institute of Management. The
quiz now moves forward to other cities namely Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai,
Hyderabad and New Delhi.
Launched in 2008, this much awaited annual quiz has grown exponentially over the years and is
a unique medium to test student’s knowledge on the Nobel Prize, Nobel Laureates and their
achievements along with Sweden, its people, culture, Swedish innovations and inventions.
Organized by the Embassy of Sweden in collaboration with leading Swedish companies in India
it forms part of the Sweden India Nobel Memorial program.
The quiz is open to all Indian students currently enrolled at colleges/universities in India.
Students are required to form teams of 3 members, all from the same institution.
The prize for National quiz champions will be an all-expenses paid trip to Sweden. The
awardees will get to visit the headquarters of the partnering companies, Swedish universities
and the Nobel Museum. Some of the participating companies are ABB, Air India, Atlas Copco,
Ericsson, IKEA, Oriflame, SAAB, Sandvik, Scania, SEB, Swedish Energy Agency, Tetra Pak, Volvo
Group, Business Sweden and Swedish Chamber of Commerce India.
Jayma, Abhishek and Asha were very enthusiastic about their achievement. On winning the
third prize they said that they would work hard and definitely get the first position in 2019.
Abhishek was very optimistic about winning right from the beginning. No matter how tough the
competition he was sure that his team will be in the top three. An avid quizzer, Abhishek has
won many prizes in numerous quiz competitions. He is now headed for “The Quiz on the
Beach’’ organized by TAPMI Manipal scheduled on 14 October 2018 and thereafter for ‘Tata
Crucible’ by Tata Group scheduled in February 2019. Very philosophically Abhishek says, “ to
win sometimes one has to fight again and again. Consistency and the will to will to win is what
matters.” Surely one day the Sinhgad team will go to Sweden as the National Champs, he adds.
