Report of Two Days State level Seminar
Sponsored by Savitribai Phule Pune University on
Pharmaceutical Technology Concept to Reality
6th and 7th January 2017
Day 01:
The registration was started at 9.00 am.
The session was inaugurated with Saraswati Poojan & Lamp lightening at 10.30 am by the hands of Dr. Pritesh Upadhyay (Sr. Vice President, Analytical Research) Lupin Research Park, Pune, as a chief guest cum Key note address speaker, Dr. K. G. Bothara, Principal, Dr. C. R. Kokare, Vice-Principal, Dr. P. B. Miniyar, Seminar-Director.
The Preamble of the seminar was given by Dr P.B. Miniyar, followed by Dr. Pritesh Upadhyay delivered a very informative lecture on Genotoxic Impurities and its estimation by LCMS .
Followed by him we had honored to hear from Dr. Mahesh Kulkarni (Scientist-E, NCL Pune). He delivered a very informative talk on Glycated hemoglobin or albumin: which one is a better marker. He emphasized on diagnostic tools and techniques used in diabetic and pre-diabetic conditions. He convincingly concluded that glycated albumin is better marker than glycated hemoglobin in pre-diabetic conditions.
The post lunch session was started by the Demonstration of Nanophox, Zeta-sizer and Homogenizer by Dr. Amol Tagalpallewar (Asso. Prof., SIOP, Pune) and he also explained its working and advantages.
Dr. Chandrakant Kokare (Prof, SIOP, Pune) delivered a lecture on Bio-nanotechnology, herbal technology features and importance of nanotechnology.
For last session of the day we had privileged to hear from Dr. Gourishankar Aland (Scientist at Actorious Innovation and Research Pvt Ltd, Pune) gave insight about Pharmaceutical Technology and its Importance to develop the pharmaceutical product to increase quality and market avenue.
Day 02:
On day 02, the session was started at 10.30 am by Dr. Dhiman Sarkar (Scientist-E, NCL Pune), he delivered a very informative and beautiful lecture on Antitubercular Drug Discovery Program at CSIR-NATIONAL CHEMICAL LABORATORY-An Update. He detailed on Drug Discovery, Role, and importance of having good infrastructure, lead target and drug discovery of Antituberculosis.
Followed by him we had Dr. Anand Mahajan (Asst. Prof., Goa College of Pharmacy, Panji, Goa) gave very beautiful lecture in a simple & lucid manner on Use of LC-MS/MS in characterization of novel degradants. He enlightens us with insight of drug degradation studies covering various aspects from selection of drug, regulatory system and chromatography system followed by characterization by LCMS/MS.
In post lunch session we had State Level Poster presentation for UG/PG/Ph D students which was Judge by Dr. Anand Mahajan. There were around 24 students presented their research work. Total 03 best posters were selected for award of prize. The prizes were given as follows:

IPQC in Herbal Products
Sinhgad Institute of Pharmacy, Narhe, Pune organized Savitribai Phule Pune University sponsored One Day State level Seminar on IPQC in Herbal Products on Thursday, 11/02/2016. This seminar was aimed to the area of in process quality control of herbal products. The purpose of this seminar is to review, discuss, and explore methods for determining the identity, purity, quality, standardization and processing of plants, commonly known as botanicals used for the manufacturing of herbal products. An overwhelming response of the participants from different corners of Maharashtra state was seen during this one day state level seminar. Thirty participants from different Institution within state participated for the seminar.
After inauguration by Hon. Dr. C. K. Kokate Sir release of college magazine SUSHRUT done by all the dignitaries on the dais. Plenary Lectures were delivered by Dr. R. Y. Nandedkar, Dr. S. S. Jalalpure and valedictory speech by Dr. J. B.Abhyankar Director, Sharangdhar Pharmaceuticals.

Scientific Writing: For Funding and Research Communication
The Two Days State Level Seminar on Scientific Writing: For Funding and Research Communication were inaugurated by Chief Guest Hon. (Dr) Krishna Iyer, Principal Dr.K.G.Bothara, Vice Principal Dr.C.R.Kokare. There were about 70 delegates as M.Pharm students and faculty members from various pharmacy colleges in Maharashtra attended this seminar. Plenary Lectures were delivered by Dr.K.S.Jain sir, Mr. Manish Bhujbal, Dr.C.R.Kokare, Dr.Pradeep Patil, Dr.P.R.Vavia, Dr. Jayant Khandare, Dr. Gaurishankar Aland & Dr.N.K.Subhedar. In the valedictory function the attendance certificatee were distributed.

Department of Pharmacology, Sinhgad Institute of Pharmacy, Narhe, Pune-41 organized one day workshop on "Pharmacology:from bench to bedside" sponsored by Indian Pharmacological society on 26th February 2015. Sixty eight delegates including faculty from various Pharmacy and Medical colleges actively participated.
The program was started with the lecture of Dr. B. Dinesh Kumar, Scientist E, Deputy director NIN Hydrabad, President- Indian Pharmacological Society on topic Advances In Preclinical Safety And Efficacy Evaluation of Pharmaceuticals. Later Dr. Pradeep Deshmukh Founder and consultant Innova Toxicology Consulting, Pune highlighted Importance of Toxicology and Animal Science which was followed by very informative session On The Road To Discovery: Stories Of Life In The Sciences by Dr. Ankur V. Dnyanmote Dept. of Medicine University of California, San Diego, California,USA.
In post lunch session of workshop Higher Education and research opportunities in USA and Europe for Pharmacy students were discussed with Dr. Nishant Vyas, Career Pursuit, Pune. An Open Forum Discussion: Pharmacology: Challenges ahead were led by Dr. Pradeep Deshmukh (Toxicologist), Dr Aditi Apte (Clinical Pharmacologist), Dr Nishant Vyas (Researcher & Consultant) and Mr. Nilesh Mirajkar (Marketing Head, Zyphars Pharmaceuticals). Here the questions were asked by the students and were answered by the experts.
Delegates were shown demonsration on ICV administration using stereotaxi and organ perfusion for histopathology, by the students of M.Pharm (Pharmacology).
The workshop was successfully coordinated under the kind guidance of Dr K.G.Bothara, Principal and Dr. (Mrs.) Urmila Aswar, Co-ordinator of the workshop.

Dr. Swati Pund gave preamble of the workshop.
The workshop started with registration followed by Inauguration. Dr. Mychael Scoggins from Micromeritics USA was the lead speaker. He was assisted by Mr. Vilas Bendre from Labindia Instruments, Mumbai and Mr. Kunal Sharma, Kunash Instruments. Dr. Swati Pund gave preamble of the workshop.
Dr. Scoggins delivered lecture on Particle size and importance of the same in Pharma material Handling. After the break Dr Scoggins continued with Zeta potential, Surface area analysis, Quality By Design and Process analytical technology. Theory lecture session was concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. Shalaka Dhat.
In the afternoon session, practical demonstration was conducted. Dr. Swati Pund handled the data interpretation session, whereas, Prof. Shalaka Dhat and Prof. Rewathi Shiledar conducted Size analyzer and Zeta meter working demonstration practical.
The program was concluded with distribution of certificates and collection of feedback from the participants.

Sinhgad Institute of Pharmacy, Narhe, Pune organized Savitribai Phule Pune University sponsored Two Days State Level Seminar entitled Current Trends in Management of Life Style Diseases on 10 th - 11 th Oct. 2014 . This seminar was focused at faculty, researchers and PG students to explain etiology of Life Style Diseases. This two days state level seminar comprised series of lectures by eminent personalities from different fields
of science.
An overwhelming response of the participants from different corners of Maharashtra was seen during seminar. More than thirty participants from different institutions within state attended the seminar. The series of plenary lectures were conducted according to the planned agenda. Each lecture was followed by an open discussion about many issues related to different aspects of Life Style Diseases.

Drug Discovery through Enhanced Drug Targeting
Sinhgad Institute of Pharmacy, Narhe, Pune organized SPPU sponsored Two Days National level Seminar on Drug Discovery through Enhanced Drug Targeting between 2nd-3rd January 2017 aimed at the area of Drug Discovery from preclinical to clinical realms by the renowned scientist from the field of Drug Discovery.
38 of our UG and PG students and 42 participants from other Institutes participated in the Seminar.
Day 1
Registration and Inauguration - After the registration and refreshments, the delegates moved to Auditorium. The Inauguration was at the hands of Hon. Raman Gangakhedkar (Director In-charge and Scientist-F, National AIDS Research Institute, NARI, Bhosari, Pune). After Saraswati Poojan, Prof. M. K. Aswar, Director of the seminar conducted the Introductions followed the felicitation of the Chief Guest Dr. K. G. Bothara, Principal Sinhgad Institute Of Pharmacy. Prof. M. K. Aswar gave the preamble of the seminar followed by Dr. K. G. Bothara s speech. The chief guest Hon. Raman Gangakhedkar delivered his keynote address. He stressed upon the importance of Research and also briefed about new aspects in the AIDS research.
Plenary Lecture No-I - Post the Inagural, the Scientific session commenced with the talk of Hon. Dr. N. K. Subhedar (Professor, IISER, Pashan, Pune). He spoke about Learning and Formation of Memory . He emphasized on the complexity of the brain and the memory. He also highlighted on neuroanatomical areas like the hippocampus, the amygdala, the striatum, or the mammillary bodies particularly known to be involved in memory. Question and answer session was at the conclusion.
Plenary Lecture No-II - Second brain storming talk was by Hon. Dr. Mohan Wani, Scientist 'F' NCCS, Pune University NCCS Complex SPPU Campus, Pune on Pathophysiology of Bone remodeling: Role of IL-3 in prevention of bone and cartilage loss . He touched upon the effect of IL-III on the formation of bone and its regeneration in osteoporosis and Arthritis.
Plenary Lecture No-III and IV (Mr. Sumant Bhat, Mr Siddharth Goel and Mr. K Ramesh) - The Lunch break was followed by a Hands on experimentation on cannulation of carotid artery (Ms. Utkarsh, Ms. Hrudaya, Ms. Priyanka) followed by the measurement of invasive and non-invasive blood pressure using 8 channel Powerlab by AD Instruments, Australia. Demonstration of effect of drugs on isolated tissue preparation was also shown. Delegates learned the cannulation and interacted with the speakers.

Day 2
Plenary Lecture No: IV - The morning session commenced with a talk from the legend Hon. Dr. S. L. Bodhankar, (Professor, Poona College of Pharmacy, Pune) on Exploration of molecule for ergogenic activity from functional foods . He explained about methods to study endurance in rats.
Plenary Lecture No: V - The second lecture was delivered by Dr. Urmila Aswar (Asso Professor, SIOP, Narhe) . The topic of her talk was An Insight into pathophysiology of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia wherein she explained the pathophysiological aspects and the role of testosterone in BPH and the protective effect of INDCA on BPH. It concluded with a Question-Answer session.
Plenary Lecture No: VI - The last session began with the talk of Mr. Sandeep Pawar (Head, Strategy and Marketing, Piramal Critical Care, Mumbai) on Leadership . He enlightened the delegates on the role of pharmacist in marketing and the leadership quality required in the field of marketing precisely. Question-Answer session concluded the session.
National Level Poster competition - Post lunch session began with the poster presentation. A total 17 posters were presented by UG, PG, Ph D students and the faculty members.Dr. Prasad Thakurdesai (General Manager, Indus Biotech, Pune), Dr. B. B. Jain (Associate Director & Professor in Pharmacology, YSPM s- Yashoda Technical Campus, Satara) evaluated the posters thoroughly. Ms. Pallavi Shirsat, AISSMS College of Pharmacy was the Runner-up and Mr. Chetan Doshi, Department of Biotechnology, SPPU declared as the Winner of the National Level poster competition.
Valedictory Function - The chief guest of the Valedictory function was Dr. Prasad Thakurdesai (General Manager, Indus Biotech, Pune). The 2 days scientific sessions was briefly abridged by Ms. Utkarsha Deshpande. Delegates expressed their views about the seminar. Felicitation of the chief guest was done by Dr. K. G. Bothara. In his valedictory speech Dr. Prasad Thakurdesai congratulated the Institute on the successful conduct of two days national level seminar and also spoke on the importance of the drug discovery to the delegates. Prizes distribution was done at the hands of the chief guest after his speech. Vote of Thanks of the seminar was rendered by Ms. Hrudaya Shende. The Seminar concluded with Pasaydan.
