The department has well qualified, experienced faculty and technically competent supporting staff. Four faculty members have doctoral degree and nine faculty members are pursuing doctoral degrees either from India or from European Universities. The department emphasizes on understanding, designing, implementing the electronic components, communication systems and also inter-disciplinary areas. Department conducts training programs for UG and PG students in engineering fields like communication, signal processing, VLSI , embedded systems, digital systems etc.

The department explores benefit of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by STES, Pune with foreign Universities. There are two major Initiatives taken by SIT, Lonavala, First: GISFI (Global ICT standardization Forum for India) as the only wireless standardization body approved by Telecom Ministry, Govt. of India and Second: European Commission (EU) Funded, Erasmus Mundus External Cooperative Window -11 “Mobility for Life” Program. Two faculty members are pursuing doctoral degree from Alborg University, Denmark under GISFI Initiative. Under EU Project, one staff members are perusing Ph.D. from University of Malaga, Spain and University of Zegrab, Croatia. Also, three staff members have completed their part of research each from Alborg University, Denmark and University of Rome, Tor Vergata, Italy.

“Project Based Learning (PBL)” model is fully implemented in the Department, which consists of Value Addition Programs (VAP), Lab Innovation, Industry projects and Research projects. All these initiatives have helped to improve the employability amongst the students and perusing their higher education.

Being a Residential Institute, students get the advantage to work beyond working hours. Department utilizes these hours for giving extra inputs to the students and enhancing their skills by coordinating and participating in the activities of different clubs like, Business club, Microsoft club, Astro club, Robo club, Music Club, Microsoft Club, Movie Club, etc.
