National Seminar

India Vs. Bharat : Bridging the Urban-Rural Divide

March 9 & 10, 2012

About the National Seminar

Over the years a part of the country has seen unparalleled growth across different parameters. This is the new India that has left behind the other part of the country often referred to as Bharat. 70% of the country’s population resides in Bharat where economic growth has not touched their lives and still remains a distant dream. A topic that is often discussed across political corridors, corporate boardrooms and households is the rural-urban divide and how the country's two economies -- the rural and the urban -- are increasingly growing apart. The popular notion is that growth not only has been skewed towards urban India but also has been achieved at the expense of the countryside. India and Bharat are like two different countries— or at least, two different parts of the same country."India" is industrial/urban/modern, while "Bharat" is Agricultural/rural/traditional. How do we make Bharat the new India and take advantage of its cheap labour, available natural resources, and other government support for the equitable progression of our economy as a whole. The vision of transformation to a ‘developed’ India can only be realized if we launch a mega mission for empowering the rural people. Major steps can be initiated by exploring the market potential in all sectors to generate more employment, income and consumption levels with improvement in the infrastructural network. To bridge the gap between urban and rural India, business organizations need to take strategic decisions for inclusive growth of the Bharat into India. Researchers, corporate, members of academia are invited to come up with their ideas, strategies in the form of research work/ papers, case studies relevant to the theme of the conference or any other related topics.
