AICTE SPONSORED
STAFF DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
On
“RECENT ADVANCES IN CHEMICAL PROCESS CONTROL”
(16-28 May 2011)

The Department of Chemical Engineering, Sinhgad College of Engineering, Pune have organized a two-week duration AICTE sponsored Staff Development Programme (SDP) on “Recent Advances in Chemical Process Control” during May 16-28, 2011. The eminent speakers from reputed academic institutes such as Houston University, Texas ,USA, IIT- Bombay, IIT-Madras, BATU, Lonere,COE-Pune, VIT-Pune, SCOE-Pune, University of Pune are invited for delivering the sessions in the programme. Also the eminent scientists from well-known research organization like NCL, Pune will deliver the sessions in the programme. The distinguishing feature of this programme is industry participation from leading industries in Process Control such as PiControl – USA, Honeywell, Equinox, Analogic, Opteamates, SAP Engineers and Consultants. This will enhance industry-institute interaction which is the prime focus of the education policy. Also the participants will get the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with these industries. This will explore the new areas for research.

Sinhgad Technical Education Society (STES)

While the need for professionals was gathering momentum in the early 90’s in India, Prof. M. N. Navale, with visionary objectives established Sinhgad Technical Education Society (STES) to provide quality education in the field of Engineering and Technology, Health Science, Management, Architecture, Pharmacy, Law, Arts, Science, Commerce and School Education.  There are 83 Institutes under the aegis of STES offering full-fledged primary, secondary and higher education and PhD programmes in various branches of Engineering, Science and Management.
All the institutes under STES are recognized by the concerned statutory authorities and meticulously fulfill the norms and standards laid down by them.  To serve the interest of the student community as well as the corporate industrial sectors, STES maintains a close liaison with industry and other leading organizations.

Sinhgad College of Engineering (SCOE)

Sinhgad College of Engineering was established in the year 1996 under STES. The campus is located at Vadgaon (Bk), Pune. The college offers eight AICTE approved degree courses in Engineering and Management - Chemical, Computer, Biotechnology, Civil, IT, Mechanical, E & TC, Production and MBA. The College also offers Post- Graduate courses in Chemical, Civil, IT, Mechanical and E & TC disciplines. SCOE is recognized research center of university of Pune. This center offers PhD programmes in many disciplines

Department of Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 1996. Ours is the only Department of Chemical Engineering under Pune University accredited for 5 years by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi.  The Department is running AICTE-approved under-graduate (BE), post-graduate (ME) and Doctoral (PhD) programs in Chemical Engineering. The mission of the Department is to establish a state of the art knowledge centre in Chemical Engineering.

Objectives of the Program

Process control has become increasingly important in the process industries   as a consequence of global competition, rapidly changing economic conditions, and more stringent environmental and safety regulations. Process control also plays key role in the development of complex processes for manufacturing high value added products with increased emphasis on product quality to enhance profitability.
This staff development program (SDP) on “Recent Advances in Chemical Process Control” is focused on recent technological developments in the field of process control. Through this program, the participants will get exposed to recent developments in the frontier research areas like- process identification, advanced process control, process monitoring and fault diagnosis, ANN based control, fuzzy logic control, statistical process control,  plantwide control. This course will definitely be value addition for teachers /researchers working in this field, which consequently will be transferred to the students taking courses in process control.
